Recently I’ve been thinking a lot about gratitude. How these feelings go full circle in a way. How much a gratitude circle can grow if you feed it with kind words, gestures and continuous support.
I usually have some alone time during my busy days – often when I’m in my car. It’s a safe space for my thoughts and feelings. And yesterday, while driving, I was thinking about my people. Those who are on my list – the grateful list. I have people on it who were there for me in some capacity at exactly the right time of my life but also those who have been there since forever. I am truly fortunate to be surrounded and supported by individuals who have made my life special.
What I’m pondering on is the gratitude circle. Trust me – it will improve your life and all your relationships. But please remember that it needs attention and words. What am I talking about you may ask? Well, what I am trying to say is that gratitude is a very strong emotion. It’s a warm hug at its worst and a tear maker at its best. Those good tears of course. But it also gives you way more. It makes you feel the need to give back. If you feed it, it grows and gives back again. Give and get back – the full circle of gratitude.
So, whenever you feel grateful, please make sure you express it. Let the warmth help you reach out to those people who gave something to you. Send a postcard,a letter, an email, a text or just call them. Knock on their door if you can. And simply say “thank you” or “I appreciate you”. That reinforcement of your bond will make you both grow and realize that you created your own circle. Say it with words and back them up with kind actions. That’s what SIWW is all about.
As a final encouragement, I want you all to take some time to reflect. On the good things in your life, your dreams and how to make them real. Talk to yourself and try to be your best friend. Ask yourself how you are doing and what challenges or troubles you are having. And please answer those questions. And if possible – talk out loud. Your words mean even more when spoken, even if it’s for your ears only. If you hear your words, they will manifest and you will take them to heart more easily.
Say it with words and answer yourself with comfort and a way forward.
An important part of my life is music so I’d like to share some musical inspiration with you. I often use music as a soundtrack when I read books or want to tap into a certain feeling or memory. This week I will be listening to Foy Vance.
